Brand Story

A rug is more than a floor covering -  it is a map of hands, seasons, and stories. At The House of Looms, every rug begins as a thought: a memory of light on worn floorboards, a color remembered from a grandmother’s sari, a corner of a room that wanted warmth. From that first thought, a conversation begins between designer and artisan, tradition and modernity, intention and material.

Our story starts in Bhadohi - India’s carpet city where looms have thudded in rhythm for generations. Here, techniques have been passed down like family recipes: knot by knot, dye by dye. The weavers know how wool listens to a hand, how a slight change in tension can make a pattern sing. We work with those hands. We listen. We learn. And we ask a simple question: how can centuries of skill meet the needs and aesthetics of contemporary homes around the world?

The answer is slow design. Every piece at The House of Looms is made to order, thoughtfully conceived, and carefully crafted. We do not follow trends, we translate context. A living room in Stockholm, a seaside villa in Lisbon, a family apartment in Mumbai, all present different light, textures, and stories. Our artisans adapt. Our designers refine. The result is rugs that feel inevitable in their spaces, as though they were always meant to belong there.

Sustainability and dignity are woven into our process. We source responsibly, preferring natural fibers and low-impact dyes, and we work in small, respectful batches to eliminate waste. But perhaps the most important measure of our craft is the dignity it brings to the people who make it. By partnering directly with workshops and families in Bhadohi, we ensure fair pay, safer working conditions, and skills-transmission that preserves craft for future generations.

Yet what truly defines a House of Looms rug is intimacy. The irregularities you might notice, a slight variation in color, an organic edge are not flaws; they are signatures of human labor. They carry the warmth of an artisan’s day, the patience of seasons, and the belief that objects should age with grace, not be replaced.

We invite you to be part of that conversation. Tell us the scale of your room, the hues you love, the story you want beneath your feet. We will translate it into material and motion, a rug that grounds a room, holds a memory, and becomes a quiet heirloom in your home.

At The House of Looms, we weave more than rugs. We weave connection between people and place, past and present, maker and home.
